an HIV research app - without words
Background
An app commissioned as a UNICEF research tool to investigate the HIV treatment symptoms amongst teenagers in rural South Africa.
The problem
Obtaining data, but at the same time overcoming language barriers and making the experience non-threatening and engaging for the target group.
Features
As part of the research interview with each HIV+ teenager various parameters are captured in the app in a fun, and very visual manner without the use of words.
The patient is asked to create an avatar of themselves and to place their avatar into a scene representing their family circumstances. They then indicate their mood and select the symptoms they are experiencing.
